New Chapter

Background Story It all started about 4 years ago with a lump Connie felt while breastfeeding her son Garrett. When it started to grow she followed up with her doctor. She was referred for a thermoscan where the technician told her it was just a fibroadenoma and nothing to worry about. A few months later Connie became pregnant again and it grew a bit more. She brought it up again with her ob/gyn who referred her for an ultrasound. After the ultrasound she was referred to a surgeon. The surgeon performed a biopsy and on Valentines Day of 2007, diagnosed her with Stage IIIC Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with 12 lymph nodes involved. She was 29 years old and 5 months pregnant with another boy. They treated her with a type of chemotherapy that does not cross the placenta. Baby Connor was delivered at 32 weeks with a full head of hair. He spent some early time in the ICU but is now a healthy active toddler. After Chemo and Connor's birth, Connie received radiation. She was declared "no evidence of disease" 2 years ago. About a year ago she was diagnosed with lymphedema in her left arm. In August of 2009, she began to experience intense shoulder pain. She received a CT scan and then a biopsy in September 2009 which showed breast cancer mets to the neck and abdominal lymph nodes.
